After a stressful day yesterday, I look at my calendar and realized that I did not have any meetings, so it was a perfect day to ride the bike to work.
About half way to work, I pass a high school. It is always a little crazy around there, but there are lots of kids on bikes so most cars are paying attention.
Well today an xTerra decided to pass me, pull in to the bike and merge on top of me (yes hitting me in the process). The bike lane is clearly marker, and there are signs posts letting drivers know that there is no stopping, standing or parking. I was OK, but I walked up to the door of the car and the lady flipped me off and then drove off, but not before I called the police with the license number and description of the car, driver, etc. The police came to take a report for me, and while I was filling out the paperwork another office found the xTerra and wrote her several citations including hit and run.
Also while I was filling out the paperwork several other cyclists came up and complained about near misses over the last several days with them on the same piece of road.
After dinner we were all relaxing when all the sudden we heard that cry that all parents know as the cry of real pain. We rushed over to find Joshua covered (just the hands) with blood from cutting him self with a knife. We scooped up the kids and ran to the local pediatric urgent care center ran by Banner Health. After a couple fun filled hours of the older kids complaining about nothing to do, we were finally seen by the doctor. He probable needed stitches, the only problem was that the doctor was not washing his hands between visits to the other rooms. We decided to let the nurse was out the wound (she was washing her hands), and take Joshua to our pediatrician in the morning. The picture from this fun event was from the new phone.
It has been a hard week on Joshua. Early in the week a kid at school fell on him causing hit to bite the area below his lower lip. He is one battle worn kid!
Let me recap this week:
- Stefanie has been sick all week
- Our primary care doctor’s staff is too much to deal with
- Joshua cut his hand and chin
- Jakob had his iPod stolen, and returned
- I was hit by a truck
- I got a new MacBook :-)
- I got a new phone :-)
